Measure the proposed gate location and dig the
holes for your gate posts. Use a hand or mechanical auger or other digging
tool. Plant the posts in the holes and level them and at the right height.
Wedge rocks or other objects in the holes to keep the posts level. Mix a batch
of "ready mix" concrete in a wheelbarrow with water and a shovel.
Fill the post holes with concrete and re-check that the posts are level using a
plumb line. Leave to set for 24 hours.
2
Bolt the roller brackets onto the support posts at
the desired height and attach the rollers. Slide the gate into place on the
rollers. This is not difficult to do, but usually requires two people due to
the length and weight of the gate.
3
Install brackets and the automatic door opening system. There are many different styles of automatic gate openers, which run on electricity, solar power or batteries. The
installation process is different for each system, but a DIY kit usually comes
with an installation manual. Follow the directions in the manual.
4
Mount the accessories, which may include a keypad
or electronic eye, and attach the wiring. Test the gate. If you have installed
it correctly, it should work.
